Pandit Jasraj: Birth, Early life and Family


Pandit Jasraj was conceived on January 28, 1930, in a town Pili Mandori in Haryana to a prominent old style vocalist Pandit Motiram. His dad kicked the bucket on the day when he was to be named as the state artist in the court of Mir Osman Ali Khan. At the hour of his dad's passing, Jasraj was 4 years of age. Jasraj was shown vocal music by his dad at an early age and was later prepared as a Tabla craftsman by his sibling Pandit Pratap Narayan. Jasraj frequently went with his sibling Maniram in his independent vocal exhibitions. Begum Akhtar motivated Jasraj to seek after Indian traditional music as his profession.
